There's a baby in my collar....

Fortuitous timing. Yesterday I made the trek across the mountain to collect our newest family member... Cheeky. Yes, Cheeky. This sweet little nubbin is a wee baby love bird, just 6 weeks old, and the most adorable little thig *ever*. After much voting and debate the family decided Cheeky was the best name for the sweetheart, because when s/he's full grown s/he will have nice pink cheeks ( and a pink & blue tail...).. plus Cheeky will be an easy name to teach her to speak when she's ready. I say she, but we really have no idea. Lovebirds have identical external bits and pieces, the only way to find out gender is to do a DNA test or be patient... When the bird reaches maturity it might start trimming paper and stuffing it in it's feathers, grooming your hair ( or beard) quite a lot... if it's making it's self pretty for you, it's a girl. If it's a boy.... It'll start barfing on you. Yep, feeding you. Either way we're excited to add her ( I'll just say her, that's easier) to the family!

A boy and the baby

This is a pairing I NEVER thought I'd see. Stella is very much my baby, has been from day one. But it turns out... Kael is her baby. He is oh so soft and caring for that pup, they cuddle together ALL THE TIME. If Kael is sitting on the couch, Stella is sitting with him. When it comes to tucking in at night Stella is sure to jump up and kiss his face all over, rubbing and cuddling with him really quick good night. If Kael gets hurt and cries out, Stella is there like lightning, rubbing on him and kissing it all better. A few weeks ago Kael took a massive dive off of his scooter onto the black top at the bottom of a hill, making mincemeat of his knees. Through his sobs the ONE thing he was able to articulate was " I wish Stella was here!! She makes me feel better." A million times a day he's cuddling her and crooning in her ear "Whose the baby? You're the baby! Stella's the baby! Awwww! Whose the baby?" as he rubs his face all over her. It'd be annoying if it weren't so damn cute. I love how much they love each other.

Gutter Garden Pretty

The green onions that have been growing in my window, harvested every few days for the past few months are the first visible residents in our new GUTTER GARDEN!! I love this idea so much it's painful. The rest of the gutter is stuffed full of tiny baby strawberry plants tht Kael and I prepared this beautiful afternoon, some with an early bloom and fruit and some with a late bloom and fruit. I am really looking forward to strawberries, fresh from our gutter garden, all summer long~! We're crafting another version of a gutter garden for the front of the house, one we'll stuff full of pansies and other colorful pretties to welcome people to our home with. In the mean time I've filled our one lonely hanging basket with an early planting. Fingers crossed I don't kill them, lol!

Because they sure are pretty!

And finally... we did it. Actually built and stained a raised planting bed. As soon as we've got the soil and Llama poo to fill it up I'm going to plant a family supply of vegetables!! Tomatos, suger snap peas, carrots, spinich, corn, and.... what else??  I also think some pumpkins? I think it'd be awesome to harvest our own for Halloween, and I'm betting the kids would love that as well.  I'm really excited to be doing this with my family, It's been on my mental back burner for years.
