So... What Would you Do?

As many of you know, the first part of the year we will be moving. Downsizing. Cutting back. We will be leaving our spacious 3 bedroom home and moving into something.. a little smaller. Our price range leaves few options. Apartments, mobile homes, etc. Here's the problem I'm running into when researching possible options.

If we can afford it, it is either a dump or it is not pet friendly.

What do I do???

I can go with a pretty rundown OLD ( 60's, 70's) trailer ( "manufactured home.. but these are trailers.) in a park with a yard that WILl allow the dogs. I can go with a small and somewhat rundown apartment in not the nicest area that will accept the dogs ( but has no yard so it would be walking several times a day, no matter what the weather). OR. I can go with a nicer apartment, of a larger size ( the above both average around 600 square feet) that will NOT allow the dogs.

I am in a pickle.

I love my dogs. But I love my children as well.

I did take on full responsability for these dogs when I got them. I agreed to be their caretaker. I agreed to make sure they were loved and in a safe home. If I choose the trailer or small apartment then I can continue to fulfill that obligation.

But.

Part of me thinks that I would be choosing them over my children. I would be choosing a small, cramped, dirty, old, possibly unsafe, crappy neighborhood etc. home for my children over a larger, clean, newer, safe, clean neighborhood... just so that I can keep my dogs. Which I love.

Now hopefully this downsizing will be temporary. A year, tops. Hopefully all Matt's schooling will result in better employment. Plus, kids are growing up. In a year Kael will be less dependent on me and maybe we'll be ready for him to be in daycare 2 days a week or so and I could get some work myself.

Should I suck it up and live in a bit of squallor for a year so that I can keep the dogs, or should I re-home the dogs in another loving home ( together, of course) and get the nicer living space for my family?

I just don't know what to do. Looking for a bit of feedback.

Wow, this is a tough one! Since your kids are SO young, and if it is only for a year...might not hurt to keep the dogs and go with somewhere not so nice. As long as they have you, they don't care where they live, especially at this age. It will be most hard on you, going "down" in...niceties, for lack of the better word. Do you know what I mean?? For one year, I am sure it will be fine! Just my two cents, hope it helps!

As far as the skin thing...my son uses Cetaphil to wash. He has used various creams and ointments over the years, right now is on Protopic. Has used Triamcinalone, and many others we can't think of the name of right now! LOL Sorry! He will put a light layer of that on the worst areas, then smooth on aquaphor over top. Some things are not for the face, some are for certain areas. Right now, things are under control.

Hope this helps!
